INTRODUCTION
In its sustained drive against auto theft and street crime, the Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS), South District, achieved another significant success by apprehending a habitual auto lifter-cum-mobile thief and recovering one stolen motorcycle along with five stolen mobile phones linked to multiple theft cases.
Acting on specific secret information, the AATS team mounted an intelligence-based operation and successfully apprehended the accused, leading to the recovery of stolen property and the detection of six theft cases.
BRIEF FACTS OF THE CASE
On 08.07.2026, specific secret information was received that a habitual auto lifter involved in vehicle and mobile phone thefts would be moving in the South District area on a stolen motorcycle. Acting swiftly, the AATS team laid a strategic trap and intercepted a suspicious person riding a Honda motorcycle.
Upon verification, the motorcycle was found to be stolen. A thorough search of the accused resulted in the recovery of five stolen mobile phones concealed in his possession. The accused was identified as Kasim Khan, who was immediately apprehended.
POLICE TEAM
The operation was successfully carried out by HC Ishwar, HC Narender, Ct. Ram Dayal and Ct. Ashok under the leadership of Insp. Amit Dutt Sharma, I/C AATS, South District, and the overall supervision of Sh. Rituraj, ACP/Operations, South District.
INVESTIGATION
During sustained interrogation, the accused disclosed that he habitually stole unattended motorcycles from public places and used them to facilitate mobile phone thefts across different parts of Delhi. He also confessed to disposing of the stolen mobile phones through local receivers for quick financial gains.
Verification of the recovered property established links with multiple theft cases registered at PS R.K. Puram, PS Mehrauli, PS Malviya Nagar, PS Tigri, PS Fatehpur Beri and PS Maidan Garhi. The recovered motorcycle and mobile phones have been seized in accordance with law.
Further investigation is underway to identify the receivers of stolen property, trace additional victims and ascertain the involvement of the accused in other cases.
MODUS OPERANDI
The accused targeted unattended motorcycles parked in public places and used the stolen vehicles for mobility while committing mobile phone thefts in crowded markets and public places. The stolen mobile phones were sold through local receivers, while the accused frequently changed his area of operation to evade police detection.

The accused is a habitual offender previously involved in 10 criminal cases relating to theft, possession of stolen property, Arms Act violations and offences under the Gangsters Act.
