The accused was apprehended from the Rani Bagh area of Delhi and subsequently formally arrested under Section 35(1)(b) BNSS.
CASE DETAILS:
FIR No. 112/2026, dated 12.04.2026, U/s 308(3) BNS, PS Maurya Enclave.
Case FIR No. 112/2026 dated 12.04.2026, U/s 308(3) BNS, PS Maurya Enclave, was registered on the complaint of complainant, who alleged that he received WhatsApp calls and messages from a person claiming to be Randeep Malik of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, demanding ₹2 crores and threatening to kill him and his family in case of non-payment. The complainant submitted the relevant WhatsApp chats and messages to the police.
INFORMATION, TEAM & OPERATION:
In view of recent incidents of extortion calls in Delhi and the increasing threat posed by organized criminal gangs, senior officers had issued specific directions to identify, track and apprehend persons involved in such activities and to dismantle the extortion racket. Accordingly, a dedicated team led by Insp. Satish Malik, comprising SI Pardeep Dahiya, HC Ajay and HC Azad Singh, was constituted under the close supervision of Sh. Rajpal Dabas, ACP/WR-II, and the overall guidance of Sh. Harsh Indora, IPS, DCP/Crime Branch.
Technical surveillance had already been underway for several days in connection with the ₹2 crore extortion case registered at PS Maurya Enclave. During technical and ground surveillance, on 19.08.2026, SI Pardeep, along with HC Ajay and HC Azad Singh, proceeded to the Rani Bagh area to develop information regarding the accused. There, they met a secret informer, who was briefed about the case and tasked with tracing Amarjeet @ Amar, who was associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi and Randeep Malik gang and was absconding in the present case. The informer was directed to develop information regarding his whereabouts, particularly in the areas of Multani Mohalla, Rani Bagh and Trinagar. Meanwhile, HC Ravinder and HC Bhanwar were engaged in technical surveillance and related technical work.
At about 05:00 PM on 20.08.2026, acting swiftly on the specific input of the secret informer, the police team reached Multani Mohalla, Rani Bagh, where the presence of Amarjeet @ Amar was confirmed. The team immediately mounted a strategic watch, and shortly thereafter, the accused was spotted near House No. 1338. Sensing the presence of the police party, the accused suddenly attempted to flee towards the premises. The police team immediately gave chase, pursued him into the building and, after a brief chase, successfully overpowered and apprehended him, thereby bringing his prolonged evasion of law to an end.
Verification revealed that proceedings under Section 84 BNSS had been initiated against the accused and that his interim bail application before the Hon’ble Delhi High Court had been dismissed. He was brought to WR-II, Crime Branch, Sector-09, Dwarka, and formally arrested under section 35(1)(b) BNSS.
PROFILE & ROLE OF ACCUSED:
The accused Amarjeet @ Amar is a resident of Trinagar, North-West Delhi and is educated up to 10th standard. He had earlier worked in the mobile market at Karol Bagh. As per the interrogation report, he was allegedly involved in illicit liquor sale till April 2026 and thereafter absconded following registration of the present extortion case.
During investigation, Amarjeet was found to be allegedly associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi and Randeep Malik gang and involved in the extortion conspiracy. As per the disclosure statement of co-accused, Amarjeet allegedly asked him to provide the mobile number of a financially well-off person whom he could threaten and from whom ransom could be demanded. His co-accused allegedly provided the mobile number of present complainant and also gave Amarjeet a mobile phone for use in the extortion activity.
Amarjeet allegedly thereafter contacted the complainant, threatened him with death and demanded ₹2 crore as extortion. Amarjeet and his co-accused were also stated to communicate through Snapchat. The accused demanded the extortion amount in cryptocurrency and shared a payment link with the complainant for transferring the demanded amount.
DELHI POLICE MESSAGE:
