NO PLACE FOR THIEVES IN SOUTH DISTRICT AS AATS SOUTH DISTRICT TEAM STRIKES AGAIN & APPREHENDS NOTORIOUS SNATCHER CUM AUTO-LIFTER

Stolen Items Recovery AATS South District Operational Recoveries

Introduction

In a significant breakthrough against street crime, the team of AATS, South District apprehended a notorious snatcher cum auto-lifter involved in multiple cases of snatching, theft and vehicle theft.

During the operation, one stolen scooty and two stolen mobile phones were recovered from his possession, leading to the detection of five criminal cases.

A dedicated team of AATS, South District comprising SI Sajid Hussain, HC Arvind, Ct. Mandhir, and Ct. Ashok was constituted under the leadership of Insp. Umesh Yadav, IC/AATS South District, and under the close supervision of Sh. Arvind Kumar, Addl. DCP/OPS, South District.

Facts & Investigation

On 31.05.2026, a lady namely Geeta reported that her bag containing a mobile phone, cash and documents was snatched in the Saket area by a person riding a yellow-green TVS Ntorq scooty. Accordingly, FIR No. 157/2026 U/s 304(2) BNS was registered at PS Saket.

Similarly, on 03.06.2026, complainant Sh. Kuldeep reported that his iPhone-16 mobile phone was snatched by a scooty rider in the GK-I area.

The AATS team collected and analyzed CCTV footage from various locations and identified the accused through local intelligence.

On 11.06.2026, a secret informer informed that one notorious snatcher namely Sahil @ Chitta would pass through Gurdwara Road near Khokha Market, Pushp Vihar, Saket to dispose of stolen property. Acting swiftly on the information, a trap was laid and at about 09:20 PM, the accused was apprehended while riding a scooty.

On enquiry, he disclosed his identity as Sahil @ Chitta S/o Tripatti R/o E-1/292, Madangir, New Delhi, aged 23 years. During verification, the scooty was found to be a stolen TVS Ntorq bearing registration No. DL3SFV5*4, stolen vide e-FIR No. 012595/2026 U/s 305(B) BNS, PS Ambedkar Nagar. During his cursory search, one Oppo A3X mobile phone and one Realme C-53 mobile phone were also recovered from his possession.

Modus Operandi

The accused used to target pedestrians and commuters travelling alone on roads and snatch their mobile phones and valuables while riding stolen two-wheelers. He subsequently disposed of the stolen property for easy monetary gains.

Conclusion

The successful operation by AATS, South District reflects the effective use of technical surveillance, intelligence gathering and prompt action by Delhi Police. The arrest of the accused and recovery of stolen property has led to the detection of multiple cases and dealt a significant blow to snatching and vehicle theft activities in South Delhi.
